District Cross-Country competition - 19th March 2010
|
On Friday 19th March, 22 children from Herington House travelled to South Weald Park to participate in the District Cross-Country competition. It was a dull afternoon and it looked as if it was going to rain, but we were all looking forward to running. Lots of our parents came to support us. Many travelled on the coach with us and others made their own way there by car. We had been training at Weald Park for the previous 3 Sunday afternoons, so we were familiar with the course, and this made us feel more confident. We also knew where all the muddy patches were likely to be! The girls were the first to race. There were 13 teams (about 150 runners) in this race. Everyone ran well. The first 3 girls back were:
The girls team achieved 6th place overall - Our best position ever in this competition. Next was the boys race. Again there were 13 teams (about 150 runners). The boys also ran very well. The first 3 boys back were:
The boys team achieved 8th place overall. This is another set of very pleasing results, and I was very proud of all those who took part in this event. Special mention should be made of the runners from Form 3, as it is an achievement to get into the team when so young. Most of the competitors in this competition are from Years 5 and 6. This event is always an enjoyable afternoon, but with these results and the tremendous support we had this year from parents, it was even more enjoyable than usual.
