Netball Report by Megan Salter. 11th November 2008

On the 11th November Herington House netball team played our first match of the year against a strong team from Woodlands School. The match was played away at the opposition’s school on a cold winter’s day last Tuesday. The match was made up of two halves lasting 15 minutes each. Given the length of time standing around and winter conditions, our thoughts were always with the substitutes who made heroic efforts to keep warm and focused on the game.

Despite the 11 plus exams fast approaching, we had been training hard over the previous few weeks, and spirits were high as we chatted and laughed on the mini bus on the way to the match.

However, the match did not start well as the first goal was scored by Woodlands but after some advice from Mr. Dudley Cooke we soon started to get into our rhythm and Alice Thwaites scored a fine equalizing goal.

The match ebbed and flowed, and at half time Herington House were leading 3 : 2 following two goals from our GA . In the second half Woodlands upped their game, as we tired, and the match ended 4:4 after a late equalizing goal from the GA of Woodlands.

Overall a fair result against a strong opposition, bearing in mind it was our first match of the year. Star player for Herrington House was Sophie Provins, who had an excellent match setting up 3 of the 4 goals we scored as well as regularly breaking up the attacks of Woodlands.
