District Athletics Competition. 10th June 2008
On Tuesday 10th June, a lovely sunny day, the children from Herington House competed in the 2008 District Athletics Competition at Shenfield High School. There were eight schools taking part in the competition.
During the morning, five children from Form 6 competed in the field events (high jump, long jump, ball throwing) competition. They all performed well, but special congratulations must go to Grace Langley who won the girls high jump event, and Josephine Urry who came third in the girls long jump event.
The points gained in the field events were carried forward to the afternoon track events.
During the afternoon, 32 children from Forms 3-6 competed in the track events (sprint running, relay running, long distance running) competition. Again, everyone performed exceptionally well, gaining valuable points for the team, but there were some outstanding individual performances:-
Grace Langley was first in the Year 6 girls 70m sprint.
Alice Thwaites was second in the Year 5 girls 70m sprint.
The Year 6 girls relay team (Grace Langley, Mary Cooper, Raheel Tharmaraj, Josephine Urry) were second, and
Hannah Spicer was third in the Year 3 girls 70m sprint.
When the overall positions were announced at the end of the afternoon, Herington House was delighted to be in joint 3rd place.
Congratulations to all the team members – We are very proud of you all.
