School Achievement

Pupil Achievement

The achievement of pupils in the school is outstanding. Through the promotion of a well rounded education Herington House Pupils are able to achieve above average attainment across a full spectrum of learning including: academic subjects; music; and a wide range of extra curricular activities.

Academic Achievement

Pupil performance is closely monitored throughout the school year using: internal exams; baseline assessment; class marking; and homework. In addition all pupils in Years 1-6 at Herington House School sit GL assessment examinations (the leading provider of formative assessments to UK schools). The GL assessments allow the School to track and monitor achievement amongst peers within school, against the national averages and individual performances across the year groups.

Levels of attainment are consistently outstanding and well above national averages. The table below shows the % of pupils above average across the four main GL examination in 2015 - 2018:

*Excluding SEN

Progress is tracked both graphically and numerically. Pupils are assessed individually and against class averages for internal formal assessments and against national averages in GL Assessments. In addition for Mathematics, Spelling and Reading, performance coefficients are calculated to show individual improvement from entering the school until leaving. The graphs below show performance tracking for a SEN student:

Average progress is tracked across all students with the average increase for Key stage 2 (Years 3-6) pupils shown below for 2016-18:

Spelling: 3 year 2 months

Reading: 4 years 2 months

As a result of continued excellence a large proportion of Year 6 pupils pass Grammar school exams and virtually all are awarded places at the independent school of their choice, some achieving Academic Scholarships as shown in the table below:
