Early Years Department - Reception 1 and Reception 2
The Pre-Prep at Herington House offers children the opportunity to work and socialise in a safe, challenging, stimulating and nurturing environment under the supervision of qualified early years practitioners dedicated to suit the individual development needs of every child.
The Early Years Department is on the Essex Early Years Register. The Pre-Prep consists of a Reception 1 class with children aged 3-4 years, and a Reception 2 class with children aged 4-5 years. There are five members of staff: one teacher and two teaching assistants in Reception 1, and one teacher and one teaching assistant in Reception 2. All staff hold appropriate qualifications including first aid and paediatric first aid. In addition, the staff regularly undertake professional development training in order to update their skills and qualifications.
Herington House incorporates the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum together with a whole range of learning opportunities to help children reach their full potential on every level. The curriculum for our Reception 1 class and Reception 2 class is carefully planned and implemented. We provide a structured day in our Pre-Prep classrooms but with plenty of time allowed for free expression and play, ensuring a happy, fun and relaxing experience for your child at the end of every day with them eager to return.
Our overall aim for each child joining Herington House, is to provide a wide and varied range of learning opportunities to help them reach their full potential, at an individual pace, whilst confidently socialising in a whole school atmosphere of warmth and trust.

In line with our Phonics Programme our children are introduced to early reading with the help of New Way, the Oxford Reading Tree and Ginn reading books.
